My Guide to a 6 Hour Layover in the Paris Airport
Starting off my Italy adventure in Paris at the Charles de Gaulle airport. Currently writing from gate F21 waiting for my connection flight to Rome.
After a long 7 hour flight from Toronto Pearson International airport to Paris I feel tired because I was so excited that I didn't sleep on the plane. My plan was to wake up early Saturday morning, make breakfast with my family and finish packing. Then head to Toronto and be early for my flight then sleep on the plane. My family and I stopped in Orangeville for lunch and I checked in and got an online boarding pass. My trip through Pearson was quick and simple. I definitely recommend checking in before you arrive at the airport, I found that the check in kiosk area was the most chaotic area in the airport so skipping that made my day a little more smooth. The toughest part of my day was saying goodbye to my family but I am proud to say I did not cry in the airport (can't say the same about my mom).
The flight went by quickly, I spent most of it talking to my new friends James and Jill. They are staying in the same town in Italy and we'll go to the same school. I tried doing some english homework... then got distracted and watched "The Purge" on the plane. To our surprise, the meals served on the plane were not too bad (James's stomach did not agree). Our flight was from 6:55pm to 2:15am so dinner and breakfast were provided. There was a chicken option and a pasta option but by the time the flight attendants got to our seats there was no pasta left. The chicken was still good but the blueberry cheesecake was my dinner highlight. Breakfast was just yogurt, a bun and jam.
The exhaustion first hit me after we landed right before security. After waking up early and not sleeping through the night I was drained but that didn't stop me from chugging a full bottle of water in the line for security so they wouldn't take my bottle. After we were through, we said goodbye to other 26 students, 4 going to Germany, us three to Italy, and the rest to Spain. We found our gate and walked around the Paris airport, we had 6 hours to kill. James, Jill and I ended up buying food from different places in the airport and sharing everything (sushi, mochi, chocolate croissants, and macarons).
I fell asleep after trying all these new (and very delicious foods) while waiting for my next flight. My advice is: to kill time on a layover, try new foods and sleep. I attempted to finish my English homework from earlier but got distracted again and chose to start this blog. When it was finally time to board we got on the plane. On this flight I fell asleep before takeoff and and woke up after we landed since it was only a two hour flight (Paris to Rome). Thankfully, Jill got some pretty cool pictures while we were flying over the alps.
Now I am at my Italian home with Gioia and her family after an hour drive from the airport in Rome to Lariano, Gioia's home town. I am going to try to catch up on sleep and maybe i'll finally finish my english homework... maybe.
Yay!! You made it! Solid layover food choices! Looking forward to reading your next blog post. Have the best time! Ms. M
